Seth Rogen’s SAUSAGE PARTY Is Deliciously NSFW in New Red Band Trailer

It looks like Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are finally thinking about what it’s like to be the munchies rather than have the munchies. The film born from that prospect, Sausage Party, is, per viewing of the above trailer, expectedly hilarious, but also surprisingly horrifying.

Warning: You’ll probably never want to skin a potato again after watching this trailer.

With the R-rated Sausage Party, Rogen and Goldberg, who are responsible for such twisted hits as This Is the End and The Interview, are again bringing their 420-degree fire to the screen. But this time, they’re tackling the world of animation. And if that sounds like a sweet prospect, wait until about one minute into this trailer when things get undeniably sour. Really, the trailer goes nuts. No joke, these characters are in a serious pickle.

The movie, which is directed by Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon (Thomas & Friends, and Monsters vs. Aliens and Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted respectively) is about “one sausage leading a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave the grocery store.” And it seems that what “really happens” when these food items leave the store is basically a tour of duty through a Kafkaesque kitchen full of monsters (people) who eat babies (baby carrots), and what appears to be a scene straight out of Saving Private Ryan with a can of soup trying desperately to pull his own guts (noodles) back into his body (can).

On top of an insane premise, the film also has an equally insane list of voice actors, including Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, David Krumholtz, Edward Norton, and Selma Hayek. And while the movie is getting some wild reviews from folks who saw an in-progress version at South by Southwest—Rogen himself says he’s shocked by the film even though he helped make it—with ingredients like these (this cast, this premise, and R-rated animation), it’s going to be impossible to say no to this supremely risqué buffet of comedy.

Sausage Party is expected to hit animated markets near you on August 12.
