SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE’s Totino’s Commercial Brought the Sexiness in an Unexpected Way

We know what to expect from a lot of Super Bowl commercials. Heteronormative sexuality, elevation of awesomely bad-for-you snacks, and a general sense that sitting on your couch watching TV is awesome. And we’re not judging–that’s cool if it works for you. But what’s even cooler is when a savvy parody comes up with a new angle to mine humor in ways we never expected.

Just as Kristen Stewart subverted sexual norms by playing the object of desire in a five-film franchise about changing yourself for love, and then coming out, so she does again here in this Saturday Night Live commercial parody, taking the premise of an ad normally aimed at hungry husbands and turning it into a steamy makeout session with Vanessa Bayer. Is it as delicious as fried pizza? That’s your call. But who says anybody needs to choose?

Kudos to Totino’s for apparently being cool with it, as this isn’t the first time SNL has tweaked them. Certain public figures could learn something about that, possibly, maybe. The final gag about the Cannes Film Festival is gold, as you know full well a K-Stew/V-Bay relationship movie would be the talk of the town, and the world. But for now, we only have these sweet three minutes and 23 seconds.

Would you see a whole movie of this? And are you now more inclined to buy and eat Totino’s pizza rolls, or less? The clock is running out, and the snacks won’t serve themselves, but if you have a second, let us know in comments how you feel.
