Many people find the slow detailed work of building ships in bottles challenging. One person took this art form to a whole new level of nerdiness: Artist Scott Weaver built a complex kinetic model replica of San Francisco out of toothpicks.
It took over 10,000 toothpicks and 3,000 hours to complete this work of art. To achieve this level of detail he used toothpicks from around the world. There are various tours going on within the structure, too.
Read about it here, and there’s still time to see it in person if you’ll be in the Baltimore area by this weekend: the American Visionary Art Museum has it on display until September 2, 2012. If you do, take videos and post links to them to the comment section….
I just saw this in person a few weeks ago! It is at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore. It’s even more impressive in person. You can really see all of the amazing detail work.
Only 10,000? That seems low for something that big. Regardless, still incredibly awesome.
