New SAMURAI JACK Episodes Coming in March and More TV News

It’s important to stay in the present and relish every moment, but it’s also okay to take a look ahead and get excited about entertainment to come. Today’s TV-Cap has news about the upcoming premiere of season five of Samurai Jack, word about Darren Criss joining the musical Supergirl and The Flash crossover as Music Meister, a poster for The 100, and much more. Let’s begin.

Mark Your Calendar. March 11, kids. That’s when Adult Swim will bring back Samurai Jack for season five. They dropped the announcement in a recent social media Q&A. Isn’t it exciting to see Genndy Tartakovsky’s series come back with new episodes? The continuation of the animated show will hopefully provide some answers. [Nerdist]

Flashback Time. Season five of Arrested Development hasn’t been officially confirmed by Netflix, but executive producers on the series continue talking about the show as though they’re moving forward. Brian Grazer has said production is scheduled to begin in June and that season five will have 17 episodes. An insider working on the upcoming season has filled TVLine in about the likely format. They report season five could have prequel elements, with “potentially half of the action unfolding in flashbacks featuring much younger versions of all the principal characters (played by different actors).” It would certainly solve the problem of the primary cast being too busy to do the show. Host Time. A 2017 Emmys FYI: Stephen Colbert will serve as host of the awards show airing on September 17. [A.V. Club]

Fire In the Sky. Season three of The CW’s The 100 ended with a chilling revelation: Earth is about to be hit by a whole lot of radiation and become uninhabitable. Yikes. The citizens of the planet have six months to figure out how to survive, and a new poster for the upcoming season (debuting February 1) doesn’t have me feeling super optimistic–which, let’s face it, is for the best when watching The 100. Twin Peaks Goes Funko. You can’t escape the power of Funko. The company features all manner of licenses in their line of Pop! vinyls and action figures, including Twin Peaks. They have collectibles galore for the quirky series, and you can see them all right here at Nerdist.

Villainous Voice. We recently learned the air dates for the Supergirl and The Flash musical crossover–it’s March 20 and 21–and now we know who will be playing Music Meister. Darren Criss will portray the villain. Given his role on Glee and that both Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist were in the musical series, it’s fitting. [CBR]

Look Away (But Not Really). Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events was a tremendously entertaining series, and I couldn’t get over how the sets looked. A featurette goes into a little of the making of the drama based on the popular book series and explores the practical sets (I’m drooling over them), the makeup, Barry Sonnenfeld, and more. Assemble and Catch Up. Season two of Voltron: Legendary Defender arrived on Netflix on January 20. Kyle A.’s recapping all 13 episodes. As of right now, he’s on episode 10, and you can read all his recaps here at Nerdist.
