Before Genndy Tartakovsky went on to become the director of animated feature films, he was a veteran of Batman: The Animated Series and The Powerpuff Girls, in addition to creating Dexter’s Laboratory and co-creating Sym-Bionic Titan.

But one of Tartakovsky’s most enduring creations was Samurai Jack, the 2001 animated series that featured Phil LaMarr as the title character, a warrior-prince from Feudal Japan whose dual with the demon, Aku, sent Jack into a distant future that was dominated by Aku.

For four seasons, Jack navigated this strange, cyperpunk, sword-and-sorcery future while attempting to find his way back to the past and end Aku’s rule before he could reshape the world in his image.

Because of Cartoon Network’s abrupt cancellation of the series, Samurai Jack had no conclusion. For several years, Tartakovsky promised a Samurai Jack animated feature film that would wrap up Jack’s story, but it has never materialized. And frankly, it may never happen.

While Samurai Jack fans await any word on the potential movie, a YouTube user called avemagnadude has created a brief animated tribute to the series. It’s a very short video, but it does capture some of the spirit that the TV series had. The song “Know they Enemy” by Creative Assembly & Sega is also in this video, from its first appearance on the Shogun II Total War soundtrack.
