Itâs been 12 years since Samurai Jack last took on the demon Aku. Of course, that means itâs high time for a rematch! Last year, Adult Swim teased the return of Samurai Jack, and now itâs official.
According to Variety, a new season of Samurai Jack is headlining Adult Swimâs upcoming program slate, and series creator Genndy Tartakovsky is once again crafting the story and executive producing the show.
The original run of Samurai Jack began on Cartoon Network in 2001 and the series followed an unnamed Samurai prince who was thrust out of feudal Japan and into the distant future, which was now controlled by his adversary Aku. After taking the name âJack,â the Samurai prince continued his quest to defeat Aku and return to his own time over the course of 52 episodes. The last episode aired in 2004.
If there had been a true ending for Samurai Jack, fans could have probably accepted the conclusion of the series. Hopefully this time, Samurai Jack will get some proper closure. But if Tartakovsky wants to do a few more seasons of Samurai Jack, weâre game!
Outside of Samurai Jack, Tartakovsky created Dexter’s Laboratory and co-created Sym-Bionic Titan. Tartakovsky also produced the original Star Wars: Clone Wars animated shorts and went on to direct Hotel Transylvania and its sequel for Sony Pictures Animation.
A premiere date for the new season of Samurai Jack has not yet been announced, but more details may be available during Adult Swim’s upfront presentation later this month.
