While the modern comic book movie era started with Blade and X-Men, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man was the first mega comic book blockbuster of the 21st century that ushered in a new age of superhero stories to the big screen. And while Raimiâs follow-up film, Spider-Man 2 was hailed as one of the best superhero movies of all time, Spider-Man 3? Not so much. But times have changed, and now Marvel and Sony are working together on a new Spider-Man reboot. And while Raimi is currently working on Ash vs. Evil Dead, he made it clear he’s up for another Spider-Man movieâif Marvel wants him back.
“I think they’re so complete now, Marvel,” related Raimi in an interview with The Week. “They probably don’t need me anymore. But if they needed me? I’d love to. It’s great to be wanted.”
But Raimi knows things are stacked against him with Spider-Man 3 still fresh on fan’s mindsâeven though he came very close to making a fourth Spider-Man movie with Tobey Maguire. “I messed up on the third one.”
The next on-screen iteration of Spider-Man will be directed by Jon Watts with Tom Holland as Peter Parker.
The idea of Raimi returning to the franchise with the ability to potentially use other Marvel characters is certainly an intriguing one, but what do you think comic book movie fans?
