SALEM Uses Witchy Powers to Nab a Second Season from WGN America

Something wicked this way comes and, oh look: it’s a second season of WGN America’s horror-drama Salem. The original scripted series (a first for the network) has garnered itself a season two after its first three episodes proved its freshman run a success. Looks like that super-cool set of theirs will get another life yet!

The horror-heavy reimagining of the Salem Witch Trials — wherein the witches are real and running the whole shebang thanks to anti-hero HWIC, Mary Sibley (Janet Montgomery) — made a strong debut with its April 20th premiere, averaging 3.4 million total viewers (including rebroadcasts and DVR ratings). It’s seriously impressive when you consider the fact that the network can only be found in 62% of the country, and on a single-feed — meaning there’s no 3-hour delay on air times for the West Coasters.

Production on the series’ second run will begin later this year, with the finished product set to debut in 2015. Salem currently stars the aforementioned Montgomery alongside Shane West, Seth Gabel, Xander Berkeley, Ashley Madekwe, Tamzin Merchant, Elise Eberle and Iddo Goldberg.
