Ryan Adams Performs 3 Taylor Swift Songs On THE DAILY SHOW

The album that drove the Internet into a frenzy for months, Ryan Adams’ track-by-track cover of Taylor Swift’s 1989, was finally released a couple weeks ago, and the rock reinterpretation demonstrated how universal pop music really is. It is also a sort of peek into what 1989 may have been like if Swift had recorded these songs in the late 2000s, when her sound was more geared towards country and acoustic rock, before her outright pop transformation.

Meanwhile, Trevor Noah was looking to make a good impression with his first musical guest on The Daily Show, so those two forces met last night, and Adams performed “Bad Blood” on the show, as well as “Style” and “Black Space” for web-exclusive videos. The relationship proved to be mutually beneficial: Adams promoted his record, and Noah’s program hosted three great performances of songs America loves.

In the web-exclusive video of “Style”, Noah asked Adams about the making of the record, and Adams disclosed that the process took about three weeks. The audience laughed at the seemingly short time frame, but Adams responded, “That’s actually a long time for us.”

He spoke further on the old-school recording process, saying, “We have a studio in LA that’s an all-analogue studio, so we do things differently. You have to play it in real time, and we don’t do anything with computers. So we just kind of go in and… if you can’t really do it in real life, you can’t do it at all.”

Check out all three videos below.
