Rumors Circulate about Disneyland’s Star Wars Land, New FastPass, and More

MiceChat recently posted a rather large update story on rumored changes coming to the Disneyland park in Anaheim, CA. If the reports are true, then 2016 will be a major transition period for Disney and the Disneyland Resort area as they prepare to bring forth the future of Disneyland to the world in the next five years or so. We’ve finally got some of the things that are rumored to be changing at Walt Disney’s original theme park.

It is impossible to escape the onslaught of advertising and merchandising for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and anyone who didn’t think Disney would include their newest acquisition into their theme parks was fooling themselves. Demolition for the highly anticipated Star Wars Land will begin in January of 2016, and construction should follow in the spring time. The site is expected to be fully operational by 2019. The area sanctioned for the add-on will host attractions such as a Stormtrooper chase and escape ride, as well as a Millennium Falcon ride. Both rides are expected to be housed in large theater structures, in the northern area of Star Wars Land.

Outside of Star Wars Land, Disney is rumored to be looking to update the FastPass system for their west coast park. Many worried that the MyMagic+ and Magic Band systems from Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL would be making their way west, but that does not appear to be the case. Instead, the paper FastPass system that Disneyland already has established is being extended to include more rides, and a new app system will be introduced as well. The app will allow vistors in the park to make paperless reservations for FastPass tickets to a ride, which will download to their phone. The app system would require users to have locations services activated on their smartphone, because the app will not allow anyone to reserve FastPass tickets if they are not inside the park while they do so. MiceChat described more of the system in the following quote:

“The ability to reserve Fastpasses in advance of your visit won’t be available to day guests or Annual Passholders, although it’s planned to be an option for people staying at the Disneyland Resort hotels at first, and perhaps later for Good Neighbor hotels.”

The other rumored changes for Disneyland include a revamp of Disney Resort’s Downtown area to be more like the Disney Springs area in Orlando, a two-phase plan to build on their Marvel Experience plans in California Adventure with rides that will attract more attendees per hour, the opening of Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadster to replace the current Flying Tires ride by the end of 2015, and rerouting of the Disney Railroad in order to usher park attendees to all of these new and exciting experiences.
