Earlier this summer, director George Millerâs Mad Max: Fury Road was widely hailed as a great action film and one of Millerâs best movies to date. While Millerâs next movie is currently unannounced, thereâs a pretty big rumor that places him in the directorâs chair for the next Superman movie.
The source of the rumor is director Jon Schnepp, who helmed the documentary The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?, which was released earlier this year. While making an appearance on PopCorn Talk, Schnepp indicated that Miller would direct the Man of Steel sequel. However, Schnepp did not elaborate on his comments or offer any more information about it.
Zack Snyder directed the first Man of Steel which kicked off DCâs new movie universe and led directly into his next film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Snyderâs next project after that will be the two-part Justice League film. That wouldnât leave much time for Man of Steel 2 on his schedule.
If Miller is attached to Man of Steel 2, itâs a very logical move by Warner Bros., as it would be an easy way to channel some of the critical goodwill from Mad Max: Fury Road towards its Superman franchise. Miller was also previously attached to direct a Justice League movie back in 2008 which famously fell apart â perhaps someone should make a documentary about that!
Putting Miller back on another DC film seems like a good way to reward him for his efforts. More importantly, having a veteran director like Miller would probably ensure that Man of Steel 2 has a solid foundation and a much better chance of meeting the high expectations of comic book movie fans.
