Rumor: TWISTED METAL: BLACK and Two More PS2 Games Might Be Coming to PS4

When Microsoft announced a game-changing backwards compatibility during their E3 press conference earlier this year, fans went nuts, and rightly so. It was a big step for the company after the faux pas that was the Xbox One reveal two years ago. It also prompted fans and industry vets alike to wonder whether Sony would be doing the same thing with the PS4. Though the Japanese giant has been adamant it won’t be featuring backwards compatibility on this generation’s console, there’s a rumor going around–thanks to the PEGI video game classification board–that a couple of beloved PS2 titles are on their way to the PS4.

This news comes courtesy of the official PEGI.info website via Destructoid. According to the screenshot below, it looks like PS2 classics Twisted Metal: Black, Ape Escape 2, and Dark Chronicle are all slated to release on the PS4.

PEGI Classification board

Though the information above could indeed be a classification mistake on PEGI’s part, I highly doubt a professional ratings board would make an error like that. Sony has yet to confirm whether or not the information is correct, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they have some sort of announcement planned for the Tokyo Game Show taking place in Japan this week.

The assumption is that Sony is planning on offering a program much like the one that was available on the PS3 in lieu of backwards compatibility. Owners of last generation’s console were able to download select PS2 titles on the system. Despite the fact that SCEA’s President Shuhei Yoshida explained during a GamesRadar interview that PlayStation doesn’t have plans to bring backwards compatibility to the PS4 because of PS Now, and revealed that the company’s focus “is creating PS4 games and adding new services,” it wouldn’t be surprising if Sony has something else up their sleeves as far as PS2 titles are concerned.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and find out. What do you think of this news? What PS2 titles, if any, would you like to see on the PS4? Let us know in the comments below.
