Rumor: Lex Luthor’s Role in BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN Revealed?

El Mayimbe over at Latino-Review, king of the fanboy movie scoops, has dropped a fairly detailed one about just what to expect from our new Lex Luthor, in the form of actor Jesse Eisenberg. While many a fan wanted someone older and more experienced in the role, usually Bryan Cranston from Breaking Bad, Zack Snyder and David Goyer decided to go for a different approach, casting someone closer to the Clark Kent’s age (regardless of how young Eisenberg might appear, he actually is thirty years old, just like Henry Cavill.)

In many incarnations of the comics, like Superman: Birthright and Superman: Secret Origin, Lex is a contemporary of Clark Kent’s from his hometown of Smallville. In fact, the television show Smallville ran with this version for years as well.  Apparently, Luthor’s youth actually plays a part in his characterization. The following feature massive potential SPOILERS for the film, so if you wanna go in pure come summer 2016, look away now. There are some spoilers for Bruce Wayne’s role in this as well, so fair warning.

Still here? Ok. Here’s what El Mayimbe had to say about the King of Metropolis and how he plays into this story:

According to the report, Lex will be bald; his head will be shaven, actually. He’s also into tattoos and body art in a big way, with the Metropolis skyline on his right arm (in memory of the fallen?). Much like Jesse Eisenberg’s previous role of Mark Zuckerberg, Lex will have been a self-made billionaire by the age of 18, and is still CEO of Lexcorp. Lex is a tech genius and former street kid who used his smarts to rise to the head of his gang by 15, and his own company not long after.

One scene allegedly has Bruce Wayne visiting Lexcorp Tower’s 125th floor, where we see Lex obsessing over monitor screens of Superman in action.

There is no love lost between Bruce Wayne and Luthor – Bruce once called Lex “amoral,” and Lex sees Bruce as a trust fund kid who didn’t earn his wealth. But the two are willing to put aside their differences to help rebuild Metropolis after the events of Man of Steel.

Bruce seems to admire Superman, but Lex (of course) sees him as nothing but an alien intruder. It’s Lex who wants to use Batman as a tool against Superman.

  1. Atte says:

This has somewhat same sound as the miniseries Lex Luthor-Man of Steel by Brian Azarello, which is a great story. I actually like how this sounds.

  2. Matt says:

This is pretty much exactly what I expected when I heard the lineup. Really it makes sense in the context of the universe they are building and really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. In fact that this is the POTENTIAL starting point makes me feel much more confident in the direction the film is going to take.

  3. Joe says:

The plot stuff makes sense of Lex using Batman and even the Smallville stuff, but why…why didn’t they use him in Man of Steel? Body Art?! I got nothing.

  4. JRadickal says:

Sounds like Lex is extreme! To the Max! He’ll probably ride a skateboard.
