Nope, this isn’t a flashback to 2002; While it’s been awhile since Geek Guru Harry Knowles has broken a major movie scoop over at Aint-it-Cool News, it sure looks like he’s back in the game in a big way if this latest report turns out to be true. According to Knowles, his sources are telling him that Irish actor Jack Reynor, who is set to be a part of Michael Bay’s new Transformers trilogy, has landed a role in Star Wars: Episode VII. Apparently, two of Knowles’ sources have confirmed that he didn’t just test, but that he got the part.
Knowles doesn’t know what the role is, but I’d bet real money that the part is the same role that Breaking Bad’s Jesse Plemons was up for, since they are both around the same age and fit the same general physical description, at least on paper. Are we looking at Luke’s son? Quite possibly.
If it is the same role, and Reynor gets the part over Plemons, it might be something as simple as who looks better on the poster/merchandising that gets Reynor the job. Here’s a picture of Reynor from the set of Transformers: Age of Extinction….

In my opinion, regardless of who is the better actor, Disney is going to want someone really pretty to smack his mug onto backpacks, lunchboxes and everything else under the sun. Plus, they are going to want a hottie to court female moviegoers. And sorry, Jesse, but I think Jack is just prettier. Even if JJ Abrams prefers Plemons, I think someone at Disney is going to overrule him.
With filming set to begin this May, we should all know very, very soon who the actual cast for this movie is going to be.
Reynor… Jacen Solo. Plemins… Anakin Solo… Who will play Jaina Solo and Mara Jade?

RG, I hope you’re right. The tension between cousins fighting for opposite sides of The Force would make for a pretty cool story. Maybe throw a shared love interest in there and you’ve got your drama.
Hmm, I wonder if they’re using the “Han and Leia’s son turns to the dark side” plotline from the books. If so, that’s gotta be Jesse Plemons. Just look at his brow next to Harrison Ford’s… it’s like all that potential handsomeness got creepified.
In that case, it would mean this new guy would be Luke’s son. I can see it. It’s in the eyes and cheeks.
Acting ability or not.. there’s no way Meth Damon could lead the movie. He just has too much of a creepy vibe. As a SITH he’d be great.
