Rumor: Fox Developing Live-Action X-MEN Series For TV

Twentieth Century Fox has ambitious plans to expand their X-Men franchise: the next few years sees the arrival of X-Men: Apocalypse, Deadpool, a new Wolverine sequel and yet another, unnamed mutant movie, all coming before 2019. Now, according to Bleeding Cool, they’re officially looking to expand the X-Men into live-action television as well. The same sources that tipped off Bleeding Cool about a potential Supergirl series, which ended up landing at CBS, are now saying that Fox is in “deep development” on an X-Men-related series right now.

So what could this series be? No one knows, yet. Thanks to Days of Future Past, there are tons of options to choose from within the X-Men movie canon. There’s the apocalyptic Sentinel future, the (SPOILERS) “new” future created at the end end of the movie, not to mention something that fills in the gaps. Of course, even more likely than anything that is specifically the X-Men, there are tons of mutant spin-off books that are perfect for adapting as serialized television. Both Peter David’s X-Factor and some variation of the New Mutants/Generation X series would make for perfect television, and leave the “big gun” X-Men like Storm, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and obviously Wolverine for the big screen.

X-Men director Bryan Singer has had a foot in the television world, having directed the pilot for the long-running show House, which his company Bad Hat Harry also produces. Could Singer be involved as well? Time will tell, but I have a feeling we’ll be hearing more about this new mutant themed show sooner rather than later.

i feel this was already done, and failed poorly.  Wasnt “Mutant X” supposed to be a poor man’s “X-men for TV”?

  2. Toppbrandx says:

X-Factor Investigations would be the most adaptable storyline for TV, especially given it’s roster since none of their powers would require extensive CGI to recreate.  Plus the story arcs would be perfect.

THIS is exactly what I’ve always wanted. I mean c’mon…X-Men are RIPE for a TV series. ESPECIALLY the specifc series that Eric addresses in the body of this article. Personally, I’d like to see both a New Mutants/Gen X series as well as X-Factor (Investigations style, obvi), but a series set within Charles Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters is what I really want. It would be a natural fit for the CW, with some lesser known mutants both young and old (students and teachers respectively) with a CHANCE of seeing a guest spot from the Big Screen actors (in the same vein as Agents of SHIELD). Maybe you can’t get Hugh Jackman or Halle Berry…But maybe James Marsden or Anna Paquin might guest. Hell, make Shawn Ashmore (Iceman) a regular! In short…Yes, Please! Gimme more Mutants!!!

They should totally get Andy Warhol to star as a big bad for some reason.

Magik/Illyana, original New Mutants. It’s got supernatural, superheroes,  ethnic diversity, I would watch.
