Rumor: C-3PO to Get a New Look in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

With all the various images, concept art and official trailers that have come out for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, one character has been conspicuously absent–everyone’s favorite fussy protocol droid, C-3pO. Of course, we’ve known that Anthony Daniels would be in the movie for a long time; not only was he included in the original cast announcement, but he and Kenny Baker (R2-D2) have been in every single Star Wars movie to date. In the original plans for the saga that George Lucas had way back in the day, it was always the plan to have the two droids make their way through the entire (originally twelve) chapter story.

But now finally an image has surfaced of what Threepio is going to look like, and it looks like at some point in the thirty year time period between the end of Return of the Jedi and Episode VII, he got his arm blown off or removed. And in traditional Star Wars fashion (and just like his former masters Luke and Anakin Skywalkwer) got it replaced with a new one, which is a mismatched shade of red. The image leaked on Twitter, purporting to be from a soda can found in Mexico, with Threepio, Artoo and the new droid, BB-8. Making Star Wars also got an image of a table and chair set that had Kylo Ren and Stormtroopers on it, also featuring a red-armed C-3PO, which lends some validity to the whole thing.

This of course fits with C-3pO’s journey through all the movies, as he’s almost always sporting a different look in each film; in The Phantom Menace, he was just being put together and was “naked.” In Attack of the Clones he was a rusty gray, and in Revenge of the Sith he finally got a sparkling gold look. In A New Hope, he had a silver leg, in Empire he was in pieces for half of it. It was only in Return of the Jedi that he didn’t get a major change in his look, but maybe he was too busy being worshiped as a god by furry little forest creatures for any big cosmetic changes that time around.
