There are potential spoilers ahead for the upcoming Aquaman live-action movie. Donât say that you werenât warned!
Next year, former Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa will become the first actor to portray Aquaman on the big screen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, before reprising his role in the two-part Justice League film and the Aquaman solo movie in 2018. While Aquaman is still a few years away, JoBlo is reporting a new rumor which suggests that a villain has already been picked for the movie.
According to the report, Momoaâs Aquaman will square off for the throne of Atlantis against Orm Marius a.k.a. Ocean Master. In DCâs comic book universe, Ocean Master is Aquamanâs half-brother, and they are also mortal enemies.
JoBloâs report noted that the Aquaman screenplay was only started recently, so the story details could still change. The report also suggested that MeraâAquamanâs wife and a formidable heroine in her own rightâwill be played by âa non-white actress.â In the comics, Mera is a caucasian woman, but as noted by JoBlo, Momoaâs Aquaman isnât caucasian either. That could be the reason that Warner Bros. feels free to reimagine Mera as well.
According to the report, Warner Bros. is also making it a priority to diversify the lineup of its superheroes in the new DC Expanded Universe. That may even include plans for a gay superhero, but no further details were included in the story. It was also suggested that the Cyborg solo film could become a team movie built around the Teen Titans.
Keep in mind, all of this is simply a rumor until the studio confirms it. But itâs an interesting glimpse at the potential direction of DCâs films.
