Rumor: Another Classic Villain May Be Joining the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Sequel

The rumors from the set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 have been drizzling out onto the internet like sweet warm maple syrup on a tasty stack of pancakes. We know Stephen Amell is joining the cast as Casey Jones. We know everyone’s favorite dimwitted mutants, Bebop and Rocksteady, will also be making an appearance in the film, but sources are now saying that another classic Turtles villain will debut in the sequel.

Now, these are just rumors so far so take them with a grain of salt, but the chatter right now is that Krang will appear in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. Will he still be a brain creature from Dimension X? Hard to say, but that certainly would be a big change of pace for the film franchise. For a movie that’s about mutant ninjas, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles still managed to stay somewhat grounded. It’s hard to imagine a Technodrome invading the world we saw in that first film.

krang

Krang’s robot was originally modeled after Sloth from Goonies.

Krang has had a lot of looks over the years, but most of us probably know him from the 1987 cartoon series. In that show, he sat in the stomach of a large, flesh colored robot who wore sunglasses. He was more gross than evil, often bickering with Shredder as the two plotted to take over the world. In later years, he has become a darker character. In the recent comic series, he was a major force to be reckoned with and his redesigned look was truly menacing. If they really do plug him into the live-action film world, chances are they’ll give him a look more in-line with the comic series.

Of course, fans of the very excellent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series currently airing on Nickelodeon know that Krang has a different look and feel on that show, too. The sinister, invading aliens of that show could be supremely awesome in a live action film. Hell, just about everything from that show could be awesome in a movie. Hopefully, the folks making the sequel are watching the superb stuff being show and steal some ideas for the sequel to the movie.

For all its faults, the rebooted Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had some cool ideas and fun moments. If the sequel handles characters like Bebop, Rocksteady, Casey Jones, and Krang well, the sequel could be pretty great. Either way, with a kick-butt comic series on the shelf from IDW, a fantastic cartoon series on the air, and a big budget movie sequel in the works, it is a great time to be a TMNT fan.
