UFC Champion and MMA icon Ronda Rousey has made it very clear that she wants to play the title character in Marvelâs Captain Marvel movie. But sheâs going to have to become a bouncer before she can become a superhero, as she’s signed on to MGMâs remake of Road House.
A 1989 cult classic that starred Patrick Swayze as James Dalton, Rousey will play a bouncer with a mysterious past who takes on local corruption and rowdy patrons at the Double Deuce bar in Jasper, Missouri. There is currently no writer or director attached to the Road House remake, but MGM is reportedly looking to begin filming in 2016. According to the initial report, Rousey received the blessing of Swayzeâs widow, Lisa Niemi, to star in the Road House remake.
In addition to being one of the UFCâs most dominant fighters, Rousey has clearly been interested in expanding her acting career. Her first feature film was The Expendables 3, and she had a memorable role in Furious 7 earlier this year. Rousey also appeared as a fictionalized version of herself in the Entourage movie.
There are currently three other movies in development with Rousey slated to appear in a leading role. Her next film is Mile 22, which Peter Berg will direct early next year. Rousey is also attached to The Athena Project at Warner Bros. and My Fight/Your Fight, a biopic of her life that was set up at Paramount earlier this year.
