“Somewhere in space this may all be happening right now…”
So began the original trailer for Star Wars in 1977, and since we’re heading back to the same time period within the galaxy far, far away with the upcoming Rogue One, it’s only fitting someone went ahead and gave it a trailer in the style of George Lucas‘s first entry in the franchise.
Made by the folks at IGN, this version was redone to mirror the trailer for what we now know as A New Hope.
“Walt Disney Company and Gareth Edwards bring you an adventure unlike anything on your planet. Rogue One, the story of a girl, a boy, and stealing. It’s a spectacle light years ahead of its time. It’s a big, sprawling space saga of rebellion and romance. Rogue One!
Rogue One, a billion years in the making, and it’s come to your galaxy this December.”
Not quite as polished as trailers are today, but hell yeah I’d see that. It’s moody, mysterious, and it has space fighting and cool looking characters. Somehow those old trailers from the ’70s have aged both poorly AND really well, if that makes sense. [Editor’s Note: It does and also doesn’t.]

If you’d also like to see what images popped up in the Rogue One trailer that directly tie to the original trilogy, IGN also put together this side-by-side comparison.
