Whether or not you’ve seen a rocket launch video in your time on Earth, I guarantee that this one is special, and definitely essential viewing. It’s the Cyngnus Spacecraft, launched by a private company called Orbital just a few days ago. They probably don’t want to be reminded, but one of their rockets famously exploded last year. Don’t worry, though; this was successful!
The launch was filmed by NASA, who made the brilliant decision recently to start photographing all their endeavors in high definition. The detail they put into this thing is incredible–second only to physically being there (bucket list, anybody?). Granted the video takes its time, you get to experience those finer details that are normally overlooked, like the intricate preparation, and the rocket being transported to the launch pad. The actual countdown to blast-off at Cape Canaveral had me feeling tense, not going to lie. Then there’s the moment when it leaves the ground, which is not only magical because you know it’s going off into the great unknown, but because it feels especially rewarding after having witnessed the lengths it took to get the rocket ready. The launch is shown from multiple angles, giving you a sense of space and placing you right in the action.
