Robin Williams’ Aladdin Outtakes are Heartwarming

It’s been a little over year since Robin Williams passed away, but his legacy will always remain. Proof of that comes in the following video, premiered by Good Morning America: ahead of Aladdin‘s Blu-ray release this Tuesday Oct. 13, the news show released a preview of some of the special features, including heartwarming outtakes of Robin Williams’ performance as Genie.

The video shows never before seen footage of Robin in the sound booth, as well as some of Genie’s impressions, including a few that didn’t make the final film. Curly from the Three Stooges, James Cagney, and Obi-Wan Kenobi are some of what we get to see.

We are also treated to a reunion interview with the cast and crew of Aladdin, conducted by George Stephanopoulos. Directors Ron Clements and John Musker, composer Alan Menken, Scott Weinger were joined by Brad Kane (Aladdin), Linda Larkin and Lea Salonga (Jasmine), and Jonathan Freeman (Jafar) to reminisce about their experiences. Discussing Williams, Clements and Musker said they wrote the Genie with him in mind, and were extremely scared he was going to turn it down. To their delight, he accepted and his voice over sessions would last over four hours at a time, without Robin ever losing an ounce of his inimitable energy.

If this preview is any indication, then the full version of the Blu-Ray will definitely pull at your heart strings.

Aladdin: The Diamond Edition will be released on Blu-Ray this Tuesday, Oct. 13.
