Robert Downey, Jr. Brings Iron Man Into SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING

Earlier this month, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige hinted that the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming would feature other heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And apparently, Feige meant the most popular hero: Iron Man!

The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that Robert Downey, Jr. has signed on to reprise his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming. This movie will be Downey’s eighth appearance as Stark in the MCU. Reportedly, a new deal with Downey was required to bring him on board Sony’s new Spidey film.

In just a few weeks, Tom Holland will make his MCU debut as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. That film will establish Stark as a mentor for Spider-Man, which will likely be followed up on in Homecoming.

But it’s not all good news with your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Deadline is reporting that negotiations with Michael Keaton to play the lead villain in Spider-Man: Homecoming have fallen through and Keaton will not appear in the film. That’s disappointing, but it does raise the question about who Keaton would have portrayed. We think he would have been great as Norman Osborn or the Vulture.

Spider-Man: Homecoming has already lined up Marisa Tomei as Aunt May (and she’ll be in Civil War as well), while also adding Zendaya, Tony Revolori, and Laura Harrier in currently undisclosed roles. The film will begin production in June, before Spider-Man Homecoming hits theaters on July 28, 2017.

Are you excited to see Iron Man in the new Spider-Man movie? Who should play the new villain? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!
