Rob Zombie’s Woolite Commercial

What would happen if you hired Rob Zombie to direct a detergent commercial?

This:

He explains at his blog:

“It was an interesting situation to handle. It was just one of those projects that came to me. I wasn’t searching out shooting a commercial. A lot of directors do commercials, but most of the time they don’t talk about it so you don’t realize it. I just thought it was cool so I’d been mentioning it. I was on tour in Australia when it came up. I got a call that this ad agency had pitched this crazy idea to Woolite, and they wanted me to direct it. They essentially wanted a commercial that the first half resembled a horror movie trailer. They needed something along those lines, and they thought I could handle it. It was fun. We shot it over two days in Vancouver. My director of photography who worked on Halloween II came in and worked with me. I like doing things like that for the experience. It was like when I did CSI, I wanted the experience of doing a television show. You just want to have it under your belt. Also, the more direct gigs I can get between films, I always learn something from everything.”

Will this get you to buy more Woolite, or will you run screaming from the detergent aisle?

Found it disturbing for a laundry ad. So much so, we will not purchase a Woolite product. I’m sure we are not the only ones.

  2. Lokey says:

Not one single wife-beater in that commercial. You guys sure Rob Zombie did this? lol

  3. Lynn Garrow says:

I love it! And yeah, I might buy Woolite just because they were cool and humorous enough to make this happen lol

  4. animegoddess says:

WOW, even serial killers needs clean clothes.

  5. smartbunny says:

Ha! I am really surprised that Woolite did this. “Dr. Stain-TANNN!”

  6. Nome Digas says:

It’s all about brand recognition. The commercial itself maybe isn’t going to do anything directly, but the “everyone’s talking about it” factor is in full swing.

Next time someone’s in the aisle and trying to make up their mind, Woolite is the one that they’ve heard someone mention. Or maybe I’m being too calculating.

  7. JD says:

This almost makes me want to watch TV again.

    Good job Rob.

  8. Brian says:

Well if sells just one bottle of Woolite it will have all been worth it.

Wait, wait, I just checked the math. No, that will definitely not make it worth it.

  9. I already use their detergent for dark clothes.
I do commercials at school, something I don’t want to do for a living but we have to learn it. So I really dig this.

  10. Ken Kreisel says:

    Awesome.
I don’t think commercials like that really sell it as much as say it being advertised as being on sale in an add sheet would, but it certainly is a lot more entertaining for us watching the commercials.
Don’t get me wrong, some commercials do make me want to buy a product like the two limited Mountain Dew flavors, but some commercials seem ineffective when the price in comparison to others is the determining factor.
