Rob Lowe and His Sons Are Hunting Bigfoot in A&E’s THE LOWE FILES

Ever since The Grinder came to a premature end on Fox, we’ve been waiting for former Parks and Recreation star Rob Lowe to land another TV comedy. But we definitely weren’t expecting his new show, The Lowe Files!

A&E has released the first trailer for The Lowe Files…and it’s interesting. Yes, “interesting” is the word that we’re going to go with here.

This August, Lowe and his sons Matthew and John Owen will join him on an A&E “reality series” that follows their cross-country adventures as they investigate all manner of supernatural beings, aliens, and unexplained mysteries. It sounds like the perfect setup for a comedy, doesn’t it? And it could have easily been the Supernatural parody that we’ve waited years to see. But Lowe and his sons are playing this straight, and The Lowe Files looks more like Ghost Hunters than the misadventures of the Winchester brothers.

If this is a joke, then Lowe and his sons aren’t letting us in on it. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Lowe recounted his run in with a “wood ape,” which is a creature that we would call Bigfoot. “We had an incredible encounter with what locals call the wood ape, which is in the Ozark Mountains,” recalled Lowe. “I’m fully aware that I sound like a crazy, Hollywood kook right now… I was lying on the ground thinking I was going to be killed…This is what I love about our show. We have fun with all of this. We hit the bullseye between true believer and skeptic in a fun way.”

“People always ask me what my guilty pleasure is on television, and my guilty pleasures are Ancient Aliens and Finding Bigfoot,” shared Lowe. “I don’t hate-watch them, but I also don’t watch them as a total believer. I watch them hoping to believe, because a world in which Bigfoot exists and aliens exist, to me, is more interesting and fun. That’s the spirit of our show.”

We want to believe. And we’ll get our chance, when The Lowe Files premieres on August 2.
