Rob Liefeld Returns to Marvel with DEADPOOL: BAD BLOOD Graphic Novel

In 1991, Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza created Deadpool as a one-off villain for Marvel’s New Mutants. In his first appearance, Deadpool was an obvious parody of DC Comics’ Deathstroke the Terminator. But in the 24 years since he made his debut, Deadpool has become one of Marvel’s most popular characters. There’s even a Deadpool movie coming in February with Ryan Reynolds in the leading role, and Marvel has big plans to capitalize on that.

Today, Marvel announced that Liefeld is returning to his most iconic creation in Deadpool: Bad Blood, a new original graphic novel written by the X-Men ‘92 creative team of Chris Sims and Chad Bowers. The cover image reveals that signature Liefeld characters Cable, Domino, and Shatterstar will also be appearing in Deadpool: Bad Blood.

According to Liefeld, this is a Deadpool story that he’s been waiting to tell for nearly two decades.

“I actually started drawing pages of it out in my notebook back around 2007,” said Liefeld. “It’s something I do when I get ideas, artistically riffing, so the idea that I’m actually seeing the story and the pages come to life is a thrill! I don’t want to give anything away, I’m just trying to add something memorable to the canon.”

Bowers added that “doing an X-Men book at Marvel is already pretty surreal, but here we are, a year later, doing a graphic novel with THE Rob Liefeld, and it blows my mind daily…Rob and Erik Larsen had probably the biggest impact on me when I was a kid, and working with Rob now, and learning from him, it’s better than I could’ve imagined. He’s fantastic, and this book’s going to be a blockbuster!”

Deadpool: Bad Blood will be out in February 2016, just in time for the Deadpool movie!
