RIVERDALE Renewed for Season 2 and More TV News

Small towns aren’t my thing unless they’re fictional, and I like the cut of Riverdale’s jib. The town will get to keep shining, er, keep being dark and ominous, for another season because Riverdale has been renewed. That’s in today’s TV-Cap and so is Jim Broadbent spilling the beans on his Game of Thrones character, photos from The Flash/Supergirl musical crossover, and more.

Back in Class. The CW’s Riverdale is only a handful of episodes into its first season, but the network has gone ahead and renewed the Archie Comics-inspired drama for the 2017-2018 season. It’s become “one of The CW’s most streamed shows on the network’s digital platforms.” More of Archie and pals? Yes. I’m already looking forward to whatever mystery they’ll be solving in season two.

Droid Problems. The next Star Wars Rebels sees Chopper and AP-5 teaming up for a mission. That means comedy gold is on the way, but, as you can see in the above clip, something’s up with Chopper. “Double Agent Droid” will air on Saturday, March 11 on Disney XD.

Casting Time! I have two cast additions of note to share with you today:

  • Marvel’s X-Men pilot has another co-star. Coby Bell is set to play Jace Turner, a man conflicted about his job. Hmm. [Deadline]
  • Then, over at Star Trek: Discovery, a captain has been added. Captain Lorca will be played by none other than Jason Isaacs. [Nerdist]

Remembering Mystic Falls. The series finale of The Vampire Diaries is happening on Friday, March 10. It’s aired for eight seasons, so you know the cast has some memories to share. Variety takes a few cast members through the past in this interview.

Another Subscription. Streaming subscriptions are a Thing, and Time Warner’s Turner and Warner Bros. are getting in on the action with Boomerang. Launching this spring on the web, Android, and iOS devices, the streaming service will be home to over 5,000 titles from the Hanna-Barbera, Looney Tunes, and MGM animation library–including Bugs Bunny, The Flintstones, and more. Boomerang will also be home to new, original series. Get more details at Boomerang.com.

Ooh, Details! Remember how Jim Broadbent is coming to season seven of Game of Thrones? The actor recently talked to ScreenCrush and revealed some details about his character that point to some theories and other information. He confirmed he’s an archmaester, that he filmed five episodes, and that his character’s scenes are with Samwell Tarly. Alicia has some thoughts about what it all means here at Nerdist.

History Lesson. Doctor Who is bringing back the Mondasian Cybermen in series 10, but what’s the history of the beings? Kyle A. lays it out right this way.

It’s Happening. We live in a day and age when comic book shows aren’t afraid to get silly, and thank goodness because it means we’re getting a musical episode of The Flash featuring Supergirl. “Duet” will air on March 21, and we have a promo and pictures. Huzzah! Could I be more into this idea? I don’t think so. See some additional photos from the episode at Nerdist. [Images: The CW]

More Zombies? Netflix has what sounds like another zombie series in the works. They’re working with director Kim Seong-hun on Kingdom. Deadline reports the show is set in Korea’s medieval period and “a crown prince is sent on a suicide mission to investigate a mysterious outbreak that leads him to a brutal truth that threatens the kingdom.” The eight episode series will drop on Netflix in 2018. [A.V. Club]

Commitment. Kyle H. has talked about The Expanse‘s devotion to getting science right, and he recently spoke to the series producers about that aspect of the series. Read some tidbits he learned here at Nerdist.

Race Back. Keeping a secret got Barry in trouble on Tuesday night. Read Joseph’s recap of The Flash and make sure you didn’t miss a thing in the latest episode.

Do you have theories about the information Broadbent shared? Sound off in the comments or forever hold your peace.
