RIVERDALE Adds Gina Gershon as Jughead’s Mom

Fans of Riverdale have waited two seasons to meet Jughead’s estranged mother and sister, Jellybean. They’ve been mentioned many times, and now we are going to finally meet them in the show’s upcoming third season. As announced at the Riverdale panel at NYCC, actress Gina Gershon (Bound) and newcomer Trinity Likins have been cast for the recurring roles as Gladys Jones and Jellybean “JB” Jones. They will make their debut on Riverdale during the Wednesday, December 12 episode.

Jughead’s mother Gladys Jones is described as a “businesswoman” who runs the salvage yard (chop shop) that doubles as a Serpent compound, and the Serpents all snap to attention when she gives them an order. A Serpent with a GED, she acts as Fagin to a crew of teenage car parts thieves. Meanwhile, her daughter Jellybean “JB” Jones is wise beyond her years, and the Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath loving Jellybean lives with her biker mom in Toledo where they run scams to make ends meet. And like mother like daughter: Jellybean –who prefers to be called JB now — is quite the little con artist herself.

Gina Gershon is an accomplished actress who has an incredible string of credits on her IMDB page, but she is perhaps most famous for her role as the vicious diva Cristal Conners in the camp classic Showgirls. While most of the acting in Showgirls is famously terrible, Gershon knew exactly what movie she was in, and turned her role into that of a camp icon. The over-the-top and sometimes campy aspects of Riverdale might require Gershon to call on some of her Showgirls skills, although this time with a leather biker jacket and probably fewer sequins and glitter.
