RISE OF THE TOMB RAIDER Expansion Boasts Hours of Additional Gameplay

Rise of The Tomb Raider continues to rapidly climb (heh) in popularity.

While sales numbers have not been released yet, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have said they are happy with how the launch of their second game in the rebooted Tomb Raider franchise has gone. They are so pleased that they already focusing more on DLC and the future for the game on Xbox One.

A new trailer has been released detailing the upcoming downloadable expansion for the game called Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch. The expansion is said to add “hours of gameplay” on top of the original story for Rise of the Tomb Raider. Baba Yaga will pit Lara Croft against new enemies in a new environment, offer a new tomb to explore, and gift both a new outfit and new bow for Lara. The expansion story sees Lara take on a powerful evil in the forbidden forests of Siberia. Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch will release on Xbox One in January of 2016.

In addition to the Baba Yaga expansion, a new Endurance Mode will be available for download later in December. This hardest-of-hard modes forces players to start the game with no weapons or gears and factors aspects like weather and hunger into Lara’s survival. Players must build and craft their gear along the way, but also make sure to hunt for food and avoid dying from exposure. The mode will offer a leaderboard feature allowing players to track how long they survive and compete with friends.

Finally, another expansion called Cold Darkness Awakening pits Lara against waves of blood-thirsty creatures and enemies as she fights to stop a dangerous affliction that has spread from an old Soviet bunker. Players will be thrown into a fast-paced battle that will force them to craft and upgrade on the fly. An official release date has not been announced for this DLC as of this writing.
