Riri Williams Soars in Marvel’s INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #1 (Preview)

There’s a new Iron Man in the Marvel Universe, and she’s not who you were expecting! Next month, 15-year old Riri Williams is taking over the Invincible Iron Man comic, and she’s stepping up to claim her spot in the Marvel Universe.

Unlike Doctor Doom, Riri isn’t claiming to be Iron Man. Instead, she’ll be going by the name “Ironheart,” and her costume doesn’t at all reveal who might be underneath. Riri recently made her first appearance in the Iron Man comics as an MIT student who managed to reverse engineer one of Tony Stark’s older armor. We’re still not sure where Tony Stark is going to be (because Civil War II is running late), but he’s going to be around…after a fashion. Riri is using an A.I. copy of Stark’s personality for her own state-of-the-art armor!

Writer Brian Michael Bendis will stay with Invincible Iron Man for the relaunch, and he’ll be joined by artist Stefano Caselli. Marvel has released Caselli’s first few pages from the series, which reveals that Riri’s genius was recognized at an early age. It also gives us a shot of Riri’s early armor, before it gets a massive upgrade.

The rest of Caselli’s pages are in our gallery below, alongside the covers by Caselli, Jeff Dekal, Mike McKone, John Tyler Christopher, Tom Raney, and Skottie Young. Here’s what Marvel had to say about the first issue:

“Forged on the violent streets of Chicago, this 15-year old MIT student is going it alone and ready to show the Marvel Universe what she can do as Ironheart! Clad in her very own homemade armor, is she ready for all the problems that come with stepping into Iron Man’s jet boots? Where’s a genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropist when you need one?”

Invincible Iron Man #1 will hit comic book shops on November 9.
