Ring In the Holiday Season with Grant Morrison’s New KLAUS

Halloween is over, and now we can start concentrating on the joyful season of the holidays. Santa Claus figures heavily into Christian mythology, and there are many a legend around his origin story. Coming November 4, you’ll be able to read a new and unique take on that origin with Grant Morrison‘s new book, Klaus. Morrison is working alongside Dan Mora to bring Klaus’s story to life, and as you will see from the gallery of cover art below, the story looks like nothing we’ve ever seen for the jolly bringer of presents.

“When we first meet him, he’s around 30 and he’s a wild man, a solitary shaman who hunts reindeer and lives alone in a hut on the edge of a gigantic frozen lake,” Morrison told Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview on the new series. “Later in the series, we find out just what happened to drive him far from civilization, so we get to see him as a baby, a kid, and as a young soldier. What we don’t see in this origin tale is his final transformation into a white-haired, fat and jolly old man — although it’s obviously implied but we do get to see how he puts together the traditional red-and-white “Santa” outfit. These are the adventures of Young Klaus!”

Other interesting tidbits in the interview include the inclusion of Viking lore and even Krampus in Klaus’s origin story, and I think that this will be a really inventive look at a story that we all probably already think we know in some way shape or form. Just flip through Mora’s cover art below and imagine all the different directions that Morrison may take us telling this story.

Klaus will be available November 4th from BOOM! Studios. Make sure you add it to your pull list immediately.
