Ricky Gervais, World’s Greatest Impressionist. (Not.)

We love Ricky Gervais. But it’s safe to say it’s not because of his ability to disappear in to other characters. The sarcasm, the halting delivery, the awkwardness–yes. The impersonating skills? Well….

On The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon Friday, Gervais claimed he had them. Better than anyone else, even. So naturally, the time came to sound off or shut up, and the results…Well, not to spoil the video above, but while he does change his voice and inflection, he does not do so necessarily in the right direction. Though he boldly attempts the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Clint Eastwood, and Robert De Niro.

The irony, of course, is that if Fallon had simply asked him to impersonate Terry Jones in Monty Python’s Life of Brian, Gervais would have been absolutely spot-on. And if it’s ever revealed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that Tony Stark has an English cousin, the sarcasm stutter-off between Gervais and Robert Downey Jr. would be an epic for the ages on a par with the Infinity War. Maybe he can be a villain in the next Sherlock Holmes movie.

In the meantime, yes, Ricky, we ARE “lookin’ at you.” Maybe you can host the Golden Globes in character as De Niro next year.

Do you think there are impressions that Gervais would absolutely nail? Should he star in a Monty Python biopic? Or is this a challenge best left to the professionals? Are we talkin’ to you? Well, we don’t see anybody else here, so go down to comments and let us know!
