How did Maybach rapper-producer Rick Ross lose all that weight? According to a new sketch by Funny Or Die, the secret to his fitness success depends on a strict regimen of weight lifting, breathing exercises, and keeping hydrated. If you want to get specific about his routine, the weight lifting mostly requires wearing heavy chains around his neck, the breathing exercises involve smoking upwards of twenty blunts a day, and the staying hydrated can be accomplished by regularly popping bottles of champagne. Welcome to the world’s latest workout craze: #ROSSFIT.
The concept of RossFit first entered the zeitgeist after a shirtless Ross gave a particularly jocular backstage interview to British DJ Tim Westwood this summer. When asked how much weight he was shredding, Ross explained the amount of weight interested him less than the overall dedication to healthy living. “I do this shit called CrossFit. I call it RossFit.” He went on to add, “The most I used to do for exercise was stand up to count the money. You know what I’m saying? But now they give me fruit to eat… I eat pears now, and shit like that.” And then he said something that would enjoy a second life as it’s own stand-alone meme: “Shout out to all the pear.” Did you catch Ross slyly eat that sliver of pear in the video?
The director of the FOD sketch, Jon Mackey, spoke with Nerdist Music about the experience of shooting with Ross. “We only had him for a little over an hour because he had a show that evening.” Fortunately, the time constraint was a nonissue, Mackey says, “He showed up, we walked him through the script, made a few changes, and he nailed it.”
The script originally called for Rick Ross to be the one in the rooftop bathtub, taking a “Maybath” in champgne. Mackey, was well aware prospects of getting the busy rap mogul in the bathtub were slim, but went ahead and dubiously asked anyway. Ross’ response was, as Mackey describes, “My favorite thing anyone has ever said to me in my entire life. He said, ‘Nah, man, but I admire you for asking.’ It was the perfect response. I’m just an idiot asking him to do something stupid, and I appreciate that he responded in such a kind way.”
Rick Ross’ seventh album, Hood Billionaire, comes out November 24.
