Rick Moranis Will Be Joining Netflix’s SCTV Reunion

Okay, stay calm everyone. Just stay calm! But there is a possibility we are officially on the verge of something amazing we have been dreaming about for two decades–the Rick Moranis Renaissance! (a.k.a The “Rick Moranaissance,” trademark copyright). Not only did he lend his voice to reprise his role as Dark Helmet from Spaceballs on a recent episode of ABC’s The Goldbergs, but he is now joining Martin Scorsese‘s SCTV reunion on Netflix.

In news we first heard at Uproxx, Netflix has announced that next week, when many SCTV alums reunite at Toronto’s Elgin Theatre for a special hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, Rick Moranis will also be there to talk about the beloved sketch comedy show and its lasting legacy. The usually reclusive actor was not initially listed as one of the cast members set to appear, at what was already set to be a loaded affair with Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Martin Short, Joe Flaherty, Andrea Martin, and Moranis’s fellow McKenzie brother Dave Thomas.

It was just last year when Moranis returned to acting for the first time in nearly 20 years to perform with Thomas, though that was just for a charity event. But it still counts, and means this will be the third time in less than twelve months Rick Moranis returns to our lives after leaving acting in 1997.

And as the old saying goes, “Once is an accident, two is a coincidence, but three times is the possible start of the Rick Moranaissance!” Well, that’s how that saying goes now!

What is your dream project for Rick Moranis to do? Forget staying calm: tell us the most exciting idea you have in our comments below.
