The Next RICK AND MORTY Looks Like a Neil Gaiman’s SANDMAN Parody

It’s going to be really hard for the next Rick and Morty to live up to this past week’s “The Ricklantis Mixup,” which might not have just been the best episode of season three, but of the entire series. However, if the sneak peek for next week is any indication, Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland might be able to do the impossible and live up to those lofty standards. After all, the episode has an ace up its sleeve: it looks like we might be getting a Neil Gaiman Sandman parody.

The preview for the episode, titled “Morty’s Mind Blowers,” shows Rick and Morty running through an M.C. Escher painting, being chased by a very distinct looking figure with wild black hair. The mystery man doesn’t look to be quite human–in fact he looks more like someone you’d see in your nightmares.

Uh, that’s definitely Morpheus chasing them, right? Not to mention that whole Truth Tortoise/infinite wisdom part reminds us of the living embodiment of every story or dream that has ever existed.

What, you think we’re stretching on this one? Well we know one person who seems to agree with us, and he is what you might call an authority on the subject.

Granted, it’s hard to tell from that concise tweet how Neil Gaiman feels about Rick and Morty doing a Sandman-themed episode. Still, Gaiman devotees should expect nothing but an affectionate send-up from the likes of Harmon and Roiland.

What do you think? Is that Morpheus chasing Rick and Morty? We’re trying to gain infinite wisdom, so tell us what you think in the comments below.
