RICK AND MORTY Mashed-Up with MOANA is Deeply Strange

Some things don’t sound like they would make sense on paper. Sorta like this video we’re just about to show you — a mash-up of Disney’s most recent animated film, Moana, as sung by Rick and Morty from Adult Swim’s totally bonkers sci-fi series of the same name. And yet, it works so well when you think about it: Maui certainly has the bravado and confidence of Rick, even if the video accompanying it is fairly lo-fi. But frankly, would you expect anything less? It all feels very Rick and Morty to put minimal effort into the actual video itself.

Made by YouTuber Kevin Temmer—who did both the voices, created the video, and wrote the lyrics—the parody really shines in the way it captures Rick and Morty’s relationship within the confines of the Lin-Manuel Miranda-penned song. (And his impressions of both characters is truly, truly impressive—especially his Morty.)

Oh, and the burps, too, of course.

But there are a heaping helping of Rick and Morty Easter eggs in the video, from mentions of Szechuan sauce, the time everything got Cronenberg’d, and more than a few compliments about Rick’s genius.

But don’t just take our word for it, watch the video, laugh, and begin planning what an encounter between Tamatoa, the glitzy Bowie crab, would look like because obviously—obviously—we’re going to need to see “Shiny” next. Somehow.

What other songs do you think would work well when mashed-up with Rick and Morty? Let us know in the comments below.
