Warning: Speculation that could be spoilers for Star Wars: Episode VIII follow. Proceed at your own peril.
With Episode VIII in the middle of filming, it’s prime time to start seeing rumors about new characters and their roles. Case in point: Making Star Wars‘ sources have told them Tom Hardy is in a “small sequence” in the upcoming Star Wars film and provided details about his role. Before we discuss further, keep in mind that Hardy’s presence in the movie hasn’t been confirmed by Lucasfilm/Disney; we reached out and they told us they don’t comment on matters of Star Wars casting.
Rumor has it Hardy will portray a First Order stormtrooper. This guy is an old pal of Finn, a.k.a. FN-2187. Hardy’s stormtrooper spots Finn while the rebel is on a secret mission for the Resistance. This stormtrooper apparently didn’t get the memo about Finn being a traitor because he thinks Finn is acting as a double agent, that he’s a First Order spy infiltrating the Resistance. Hardy’s stormtrooper is pleased to see his buddy because he apparently knew FN-2187 from their days at the academy (or whatever the First Order calls their training institution).
It sounds like it could be a funny scene that would make Finn sweat being found and apprehended. However, if it’s true, I’m surprised a picture of FN-2187 wasn’t circulated throughout the First Order naming him as a traitor and deserter.
Do you think this rumor has legs? If so, how do you feel about Hardy playing a stormtrooper and do you think we’ll see him remove his helmet? Let me know in the comments.
