Report From the Future and Win “Halo 4” and an Xbox

We give away a lot of stuff at Nerdist Industries, but we’re not the only ones in that business, and here’s one we thought you’d like to know about, because it’s a little different. Our friends at Mashable are giving away a limited edition copy of Halo 4 with a special Xbox 360 covered in Halo artwork, which is nice, but the interesting part is what you have to do to win it, and here it is: They’re challenging entrants (that means you) to make a fake news video report… from the futurrrrre! (Read that with plenty of reverb) You can make it funny or serious, whatever — creative is the key — but that’s not the whole challenge. No, you have to include five words (actually, three words, one number, and a given name-surname combo) in the report. Those are, in no particular order:

1. Hashtag
2. Warthog
3. Spatula
4. 343
5. James Polk

How you get those in there is up to you; you just have to say them at some point. (Me, I’d just yell “James Polk Spatula Warthog! Hashtag 343! AAAAAAAAUGH!” That’s why I wouldn’t win) Then post it to YouTube, and post the link to your video in the comments to the above video at this link, or tweet your video link to @MashableHQ with the hashtag #HaloGiveaway. The video says that the deadline is November 12th at noon ET with no extensions, but I’ve been told that it has indeed been extended to November 16th. But I’m an unreliable witness, so go to the contest page over at Mashable and the official Mashable rules page and whatever they say is how it’s gonna go.

The video gives you the idea of what they’re looking for. It involves space broccoli. The contest overall involves Doritos and Mountain Dew and is part of their Halo 4 Double XP promotion, about which I know nothing but which reminds me that a truckload of Doritos (regular old Nacho Cheese variety will do) and a case of Mountain Dew would go down just fine and they know where they can find me, if you catch my drift. But the prize isn’t that, it’s the Xbox 360 (with a 320 GB hard drive) and Halo 4 in a limited edition, a Halo Xbox 360 controller, and, apparently, a box with Doritos and Mountain Dew packaging — packaging?!? I CAN’T EAT PACKAGING! — signed by the game’s creators at 343 Industries. And you want to win that stuff, so start working on those news reports now. Time’s a-wastin’.
