Report: Ben Affleck to Co-Write BATMAN Standalone Film with Geoff Johns

He is vengeance. He is the night. He is Batman…and soon Ben Affleck may be the star and the co-writer of Warner Bros. forthcoming Batman standalone film. According to reports, Affleck is in talks to star, write, and direct the superhero film. To make matters even more interesting, Affleck would be co-writing the film alongside DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns.

A longtime comic book writer, Johns is responsible for titles like Justice League, Aquaman, The Flash, and his much-vaunted run on Green Lantern which included fan favorite storylines like “Blackest Night”. He has penned a number of DC Comics television adaptations like Smallville, Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl too.

According to Deadline, the duo are set to turn in a script by the end of the summer, and would begin shooting the film after he wraps his next directorial project, Live By Night, an adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel of the same name. Although there is no release date yet, the film will follow the plot threads laid out for Bruce Wayne over the course of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

Warner Bros. has not offered a comment at this time. Hopefully more will be revealed at their Comic-Con panel on Saturday.

What do you think of this creative duo writing the new Batman movie? What would you like to see it focus on? Let us know in the comments below.
