Report: Adam Driver May Be STAR WARS: EPISODE VII’s Villain

Villains are important to any universe, but it’s especially true for Star Wars. Darth Vader is an iconic character and any bad guy created within the same galaxy will be measured up to that standard. No pressure, Adam Driver. Variety reports that the actor best known for his roles on Girls and Inside Llewyn Davis is near to signing on for the role of the villain in the J.J. Abrams-directed Episode VII.

The possibility of a looming announcement is exciting. However, it’s important to keep in mind the ink is not dry on the deal, and we’ve heard other rumors concerning Gary Oldman and Benedict Cumberbatch that haven’t panned out yet. If things move forward, Driver could be the first official member of the cast.

Variety’s sources say forward movement has been slow because of hang-ups with scheduling. Driver’s involvement with Girls understandably takes up a fair amount of his schedule. But, supposedly that’s all been worked out and the contract should be finalized in the coming days.

What do you think of this latest rumor? Let us know in the comments.

He’s pretty surprising as an actor because in Girls he is usually likable now but he hasn’t always been. He’s a very talented actor!

  2. Laura says:

I think he is an amazing actor, with extraordinary depth and range of character. The progression of his character in Girls proves that to me, not to mention the rare glimpse we got of him “rehearsing” his Broadway role in the final scene of last week’s episode. I’m excited, a well-deserved break for him imo. Hope it opens many doors for him!

  3. Keith says:

I think he would make a great, younger Jedi who falls to the Dark Side, like Exar Kun (sp?). Or, if they do the Thrawn trilogy, he could do well as Thrawn. Gary Oldman would be the best Thrawn out of the rumor group.

I’m sorry but dude is a pretty good actor. This could be his breakout performance. And being goofy has nothing to do with acting. Tim Curry comes to mind of something funny but he was amazing as Pennywise.

  5. aaron says:

I don’t get it… Maybe he will surprise us, but he is far too goofy looking to play a human. He would need to be an alien / in makeup. Also, his goofy nature makes him seem funny/likeable to me, that’s not the standard for a villain, which could be a good thing but is usually a very bad thing.
