Maurice Sendak passed away today in Danbury, Connecticut at 83. Few children’s books have ever had the impact on so many kids as Where the Wild Things Are, and his legacy from that book, In the Night Kitchen, and others is enormous. We’ve posted a couple other videos before featuring interviews with Sendak; here he is with Stephen Colbert back in January:

And just before that, there was this excellent interview from the Tate Shots series, with much about his process and influences:
I imagine that Maurice, having left this land of Wild Things, has found his supper waiting for him, still hot.
I used to love his books when I was a kid. Shame to see him go but I suppose thats the way things go.
He will be greatly missed.
He was an amazing author, may fond memories of his books for both me and my kids, rest in peace.
