Remedy ‘Punishes’ Those Who Pirate QUANTUM BREAK

It’s no secret that people pirate video games all the time. While some developers are reluctant to address the situation, there are others, like Remedy Entertainment, who take a blunt approach to calling people out on their illegal activity. If you’re familiar with the playful stunt they pulled when Alan Wake launched back in 2010, you probably won’t be surprised to hear that they’ve done it again with their latest game, Quantum Break. Both Rock Paper Shotgun and Reddit noticed the joke’s return.

Though we’ve come to expect these types of shenanigans from Remedy, seeing Jack Joyce donning an eyepatch (skull and crossbones, and all) is still pretty hilarious. Apparently, if the game detects that a player has obtained a copy illegally, the eye-wear will be added to the protagonist.

But, as many players are finding out, there’s a bug that is making the patch show up when it isn’t supposed to. The developer has already addressed the phenomena on the game’s official FAQ.

Jack looks like a pirate.
DRM might’ve accidentally triggered. Make sure you’ve logged into your Microsoft account before starting the game (thanks NeoGAF!).

If you’re in this boat, it is suggested that you simply quit the game, make sure you’re logged into the Microsoft Store, then load it again. While there’s no word on whether this issue will be erm…patched, it’s a fun workaround if you’re curious to see what it looks like.

That said, though hilarious, this move may encourage players to pirate the game–which defeats the whole purpose, if you ask me. Of course, you could take advantage of the bug, or mod it into the game yourself. But, I digress.
