Relive the Beautiful Deaths of GAME OF THRONES Season 5

As you might have guessed from the title, this post has spoilers about the deaths in Season 5 of Game of Thrones. Please go back across The Wall if you’re not caught up.

Death is part of the cycle of life, and in Westeros, it seems to rule the cycle. Game of Thrones is notorious for its gruesome and dreadful deaths each season, but HBO has found a way to make the losses a tiny bit less awful (emphasis on tiny bit).

Their “Beautiful Death” series by artist Robert Ball captures the most iconic deaths episode-by-episode. We’ve featured the highlights from previous seasons, but now that Season 5 has come to an end, let’s look at the latest additions to the huge cemetery of Westeros.

Each “Beautiful Death” poster highlights one death or a group of deaths. Obviously, the series doesn’t encompass all the characters who lost their lives — it’s more like a highlight reel. It’s depressing but also gorgeous. Ball’s style focuses on shapes and colors rather than tons of details, and the minimalist style does wonders for making the intensity of each image land, as does the inclusion of a quote on each poster.

From Episode 1, “The Wars to Come” – Mance Rayder

From Episode 2, “The House of Black and White” – Mossador
