Real Lasers Shoot Out of These Homemade IRON MAN Gauntlets

Whenever I go to Target, regardless of what I am there for, I always stop in the toy aisle. Yes, I understand how old I am, and I am comfortable with my decisions. Since 2008, the Marvel section has always had some sort of Iron Man “repulsor glove.” Sometimes it shoots paper discs, other times it was a glorified flashlight. (SIDENOTE: I REALLY wish the Spider-Man webshooters worked better than they did.)

Patrick Preibe decided that he wasn’t satisfied, so he made his OWN Iron Man gauntlet. Taking it even further, he made one that shoots lasers for real. Even FURTHER, he made one that shoots lasers THAT BURN STUFF! As you can see from the video, Patrick fabricated a gauntlet similar to the one Tony uses in Iron Man 2 and Avengers. It shoots a “repulsor ray” blue laser from the palm, and a red laser from the top of the hand. And just like the movies, when the red laser is done firing, Patrick’s gauntlet even shoots out a little cartridge to give it that authentic feel.

These lasers aren’t just a light show, either. Patrick demonstrates how both lasers have the capacity to burn through small objects like a small piece of wood or an orange. If you happen to be a blown-up balloon? Sorry my inflatable friend, but your days are numbered. While Patrick’s gauntlet isn’t quite ready to send the Chitauri back to their home dimension just yet, he’s well on his way to ruining Derek’s birthday surprise at work next week. (NOTE: Skip to the 3 minute mark in the video to see the repulsor in action.)

If you would like to see more of Patrick’s projects, you can view his YouTube channel here.

What say you? Do you wish you had the engineering skill to crate your own repulsor ray? Are you afraid of it being mass-marketed and falling into the wrong hands (i.e. 6-year-olds)? Let me know on Twitter or in the comments below.
