REAL FAKE HISTORY Goes A Few Rounds with Nintendo’s PUNCH OUT!!

Forget Rocky Balboa. The most improbable world heavyweight boxing champion of all-time is Little Mac!

The latest episode of Machinima’s satirical series, Real Fake History, has turned the spotlight on the beloved Nintendo game, Punch Out!!– which used to be called Mike Tyson’s Punch Out!! back when it first came out in 1987 for the NES.

Part of Punch Out!!’s novelty was that it followed Little Mac’s progression as a fighter through the boxing ranks, before his title shot against Tyson– or Mr. Dream, depending upon which version of the game you have. There are a lot of things in the game that don’t make any sense, but Real Fake History has spun some of those aspects into comedic gold.

Tony Janning (The Legend of Neil) stars in this week’s episode as John “Little Mac” MacDougal, with Harrison White as Jerome “Doc” Louis, and Dave Mattey as Andra “Soda” Popinsky. Mattey was also in last week’s Game of Thrones-inspired episode of Real Fake History as one of the giants who attacked Castle Black.

While this episode doesn’t quite follow Little Mac into his title match, it does explain his ridiculous training routine, and it also reveals why so many of Little Mac’s early foes were so over-the-top and easily defeated.

This episode was written and directed by Janning, with narration from Phil Morris (Seinfeld, Smallville). Still to come this season on Real Fake History are episodes featuring The Avengers, The Walking Dead, Pacific Rim, Starcraft 2, Starship Troopers, and The Dark Knight Rises.
