READY PLAYER ONE’s First Trailer Is an Action Packed Nostalgia Trip

Warner Bros. released the first trailer for its upcoming Steven Spielberg directed film Ready Player One at San Diego Comic-Con today, and if you are ready to enter a virtual world where you can make a getaway in your very own Delorean, and stand side-by-side with the Iron Giant, you’ll probably be eager to log in.

The trailer, narrated by main character Wade Watts (played by X-Men: Apocalypse‘s Tye Sheridan) sets the stage for the unpleasant world of 2045, where a lost generation of kids who want to escape the trailer stacks of their horrible reality and be found living inside of the Oasis, the giant, immersive virtual reality world where you can be anything and anyone you want, including an orc.

Readers of Ernest Cline’s novel that the film is based on will recognize the army of anonymous Sixers who are trying to win the mysterious contest at the heart of the story, as well as what looks like the anti-gravity birthday party thrown by Ogden Morrow in the film.

While we don’t get to see Art3mis, Sorrento, or Aech, we do see why this is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year. For originally being a book the story offers a chance to create a visual marvel.

Are you ready for Ready Player One? What other easter eggs or 80s references did you spot in this first trailer? Let us know in the virtual reality comments section found below, and on Twitter.
