Raunchy Nun Comedy THE LITTLE HOURS Gets a Nasty, Heavenly Poster (Exclusive)

A lot of movies make outlandish promises to potential audiences, but it’s safe to say that The Little Hours is the best filthy-mouthed comedy based on a 14th century Italian novella you’ll see this year. Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, and Kate Micucci anchor an ensemble of top-level comedians tearing a Medieval nunnery to shreds with a long list of super fun sins.

And Fred Armisen will gladly read that list to you in the red band trailer. There are mistaken identities, illicit romances, and, now, a radiant poster that paints the bawdy modern crew in Illustrated Manuscript style.

The Little Hours Poster

The Little Hours was a fun diversion at Sundance, and it should prove to be the same for a summer loaded with superheroes and large-scale spectacles. The film is a simple tale of a serf (Dave Franco) who pretends to be deaf and dumb to hole up at the convent–a bit like an extended episode of Drunk History that relies on the incongruousness of people in religious regalia acting sacrilegious.

Writer/director Jeff Baena has made something fantastically clever that the world couldn’t have predicted it might have wanted. The plot is about as loose as it gets, but that leaves a ton of room for the cast to play, and Baena gets out of their way to let them shine (and reach some pretty bizarre places).

It also turns out that they didn’t make up that Catholic League quote from the poster. They really did call it “pure trash,” which shouldn’t be too surprising. This definitely isn’t Sister Act.

The Little Hours opens June 30, 2017. Get thee to this movie.
