Rashida Jones Sings Soulfully on Low-key Jam, ‘Flip and Rewind’

Rashida Jones is probably best known for her portrayal of Ann in Parks And Recreation, but she’s also dabbled in the music scene, providing backing vocals for Maroon 5  and appearing in music videos for the Foo Fighters and Aaliyah. She even donned the directing hat for Sara Bareilles’ song, “Brave”.

Now, Jones is further channeling her inner pop-star, by lending her sweet singing voice to a new song from Boss Selection, a project from producer Sunny Levine (who did the score for Jones’ rom-com, Celeste & Jesse Forever). The song is called “Flip and Rewind”, and it’s a laid back, poppy jam, the perfect soundtrack to a 1980’s American summer.

The song was co-written by Jones, with Sunny and Stewart Levine. It’s lyrics are fun and upbeat, suggesting a familiar feeling of mischief that accompanies youth: “Staying, staying, way past closing time/get the feeling we’re going for another ride.” In all honesty, the fact that Jones is a talented singer should come as no surprise–her father is Quincy Jones after all. Yep, he’s the guy who produced Michael Jackson’s Thriller and has an elementary school named after him. No biggie.

If you like the sound of Jones’ vocals on “Flip and Rewind”, Boss Selection’s album, Volume One, will be released in early December.

What do you think of this track? Would you like to see Jones doing more work in music? Sound off in the comments below.
