Rage Against The Fraternities

I was never in a school band, not because I didn’t think it was cool — actually, I didn’t think much about the band either way. It was mostly because I can’t play any instruments. But maybe if they tried something like this, I might have been interested. Ladies and gentlemen, the George Mason University Green Machine band with its Rage Against the Machine medley:

The flautists are into it.

  1. Jeremy says:

Band Nerd update – they’re not flutes, they’re piccolos.

  2. Wade says:

    Um
It’s basically one song. Shoving the riff to Bulls on Parade for a few measures at the very start and then shouting “Bulls on Parade” at the end does not a medley make.

  3. tm says:

This one time …at band camp…we raged against being white and privileged.

  4. Um, Wade, there’s more than one song in there, unless “Killing in the Name” and “Bulls On Parade” have somehow become the same song.

And the frat thing was a little joke — it’s college, there’s really no “machine” to rage against, it’s a random institution to rage against — but whatever.

  5. Wade says:

    That was completely awesome.

But it’s not a medley you dumb fuck!

It’s one song. And what does this have to do with frats? NOTHING.

  6. Whit says:

This is my Architecture firm’s Music School project. Its such a thrill to see this!

  7. my_leisure says:

What does this have to do with Fraternities? Chris, did the Frat you were in make you do an elephant walk?

  8. manos hands of fate says:

As a former band geek, I salute them… especially the rockin’ little red t-shirted flautest. but wait, there’s more!

That’s Bill Fucking Murray digging them, too. PENIS!

  9. Galadriel says:

Fun stuff like this, my fellow band nerds, is why school bands and band camps will ALWAYS RULE and MUST ALWAYS BE WELL-FUNDED, from elementary on up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s also why I teach music and why my best memories revolve around it.

If I vividly recall doing the school band rock-out to Earth, Wind, and Fire, does that mean I’m old? Oh, did we kick a@@, especially our red-hot (in more ways than one) HS jazz band!!!

  10. DefconDan says:

Man this is cool… would have joined band if it were as cool as this.

Yo, can I get a triangle up in this bitch!?

  11. Lizzie says:

Yay college marching/pep bands! I’m in the Towson University TIGER Marching Band and Pep Band, and George Mason’s in the same bracket as our basketball team (and are probably whooping our butts, but that’s beside the point). I so wish that Mason had a football team, so that they could finally get a chance to march on a field!

Just sharing some band love, from one band to another. 😀

  12. I really really really wanted that kid to yell “Fuck you I won’t do what you tell me!”. Because in high school that’s really all you want to yell anyway.

  13. Duncan7 says:

This one time, at band camp, I stuck my flute in a mosh pit.

  14. Kristina says:

I loved being in band in high school! We had so much fun and played awesome music. We did a Queen show my junior year, as a flautist I rocked out to some Bohemian Rhapsody.

  15. 1Nerdgirl says:

Wow, look at the conductor.. He’s into it too ^_^

  16. Mike says:

that girl in red is ROCKING. THE. FUCK. OUT.

  17. Leif S says:

Wow, they got Jonah to do vocals? Nice get!

  18. Stacy says:

I ♥ this. I also ♥ band. One year in HS we played nothing but John Williams. For marching band we did ET, Cowboys, and Star Wars. For the concert season we did Jurassic Park, Jaws, and Indiana Jones.

The year before that we did all James Bond stuff. My band directors where the most awesome teachers I ever had.

  19. paul says:

Do not anger the band geeks.

  20. JohnFisticuffs says:

If my h.s. band was half as awesome as that, I’d have quit sports and signed up day one.
