Radiohead to Release New Album This Weekend, Share “Daydreaming” Video

If those of you that are both giant Radiohead fans and tremendous Paul Thomas Anderson junkies thought you were daydreaming when you heard the news that the acclaimed director had recently shot a new music video for the band, well, you weren’t far off. Today, the band released their newest song and accompanying video, “Daydreaming,” directed by PTA himself. Not only, that but we have official confirmation that Radiohead’s new LP will release at 2 pm ET this Sunday, May 9!

In the video, a scraggy and weathered but stoic Thom Yorke meanders throughout various locations, going from one place to another by using doors that lead to different, unconnected locations. A hotel door opens up to a busy family living room, which leads to a hospital, and so on. After traveling through the beach, an empty parking lot, a store, and the woods, he goes back through all of them again in quick succession at the end.

Finally, Yorke finds himself on a snowy mountainside, and day becomes night, forcing him to crawl into a small cave where a fire waits.

As for the nearly six-minute-long song itself, it is lyrically sparse and has a very ephemeral feel, which makes the music video all the more fitting. Both Yorke the singer and Yorke the man feel like they are floating through it.

This is the second song released by the band after they had scrubbed their social media accounts clean last week. The first one was the long awaited song “Burn the Witch,” which came with a stop-motion animated video. As of now we still expect to get the full album sometime next month, but we’re more than content to keep getting a new song and video every day in the meantime.

What do you think of the new song and PTA-helmed video? Tell us in the comments below.
